PUPPY TRAINING CLASS

Socialisation and training for puppies, which must be 16 weeks or under on the night the course starts.

This is a 6 week course where puppies learn to interact with other puppies, adults and children in the appropriate manner.

Basic obedience training using positive reinforcement methods.

Puppies will be accepted one week after their first vaccination, however if your puppy has not completed his full course we will not accept liability for them.

The course incorporates the Kennel Club Puppy Good Citizen Scheme, and we ask owners to bring to class a toy and your dogs grooming kit.

COURSE 1
Beginners Obedience

Basic pet obedience for dogs of any age.

This 12 week course aims to promote responsible dog ownership, helping you to train your dog to be a well behaved member of the community and to be an
enjoyable family pet.

All breeds and ages of dog are welcome as long as the dog is fully vaccinated.

Our classes are designed to give you an insight into dog behaviour and training, and will teach you how to control your dog. This includes sit, down, stand, wait, walk on a loose lead, come back when called, don’t jump up and other social activities.

There will be an opportunity to progress further should you wish to, either for
competition or just for fun.

COURSE 2
Having completed either course 1 or Puppy course 2, all dogs are eligible to go on to course 2, the aim is to tighten up the exercises already learned, and also to start with some more formal obedience exercises. At the end of Course 2 the dog and handler must have achevied the following criteria in order to proceed to course 3

• 1/2 minute sit stay off lead
• 1 minute down stay off lead
• Reasonable heelwork
• Recall - walk away off lead

Criteria for moving from Course 3 to Course 4

Dog & handler must be able to do the following:

• Fairly good general heelwork with the dog beginning to move with the handler - handler having the right idea
• Start of the retrieve
Stays must be solid:
• 1 minute sit stay
• 2 minute down stay
• Good recall

Criteria for moving from Course 4 to Course 5

Dog & handler must be able to do the following:

• A fair retrieve
• Good heelwork on lead & reasonable off lead
Stays must be solid:
• 2 minute sit stay
• 3 minute down stay -
• Beginnings of an A recall

Criteria for moving from Course 5 to Course 6

Dog & handler must be able to do the following:

• Good retrieve
• Good heelwork on & off lead
• Beginnings of a sendaway
Stays must be solid:
• 3 minute sit stay
• Down stay - mainly out of sight 3-4 mins
